The Malvern Hills Conservators
Easier Access path |
 |
"The Official Opening of the Easier Access Path starting at Blackhill Car Park, took place on Friday 14 September. This ceremony was performed by Simon Barnes, a wheelchair user, former resident of Malvern and now head of fundraising and communications at the Spinal Research Charity.
There was a very good attendance - all were welcomed, particularly wheel chair users, families with prams or pushchairs, as well as of course walkers. Light refreshments were available to all near the viewpoint at the top of the path.
The Easier Access Path, the first of it kind purposely constructed on the Hills by the Conservators is intended not only for wheel chair users, but also for all people (young & old) , who when visiting The Malverns would welcome an easy and quick route to the ridge of the Hills. I hope that it will be popular and will increase the pleasure for our visitors of being able to access our Hills more easily.
Finally, the Malvern Hills Conservators are very grateful to all those who contributed to the Easier access Appeal and thereby enabled this most worthwhile project to become a reality.

The Malvern Hills Conservators have completed work on the disabled parking bays and the Easy Access Trail on to the ridge of the Malvern Hills. This trail, some 900 metres long, has a gentle gradient up to the plateau above the car park. The track has been specially treated, so as to be suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Parking is close at hand. The track can be reached from Jubilee Drive, some 500 metres north of the Malvern Hills Hotel (Grid Ref: 771 405). Disabled people are asked to purchase a ticket for the car park. Ticket revenue goes towards the upkeep of this trail. We hope you enjoy your day out.

Work is now completed at an approximate cost of £16000. Half of this was funded by the Conservators, the rest was raised by grants and public contributions. Any donation that you may have made towards this very worthwhile scheme has been greatly appreciated.:
