Speller Metcalfe Tree Planting

Recently, we planted 13 new trees along Peachfield Road, with the help of volunteers from Speller Metcalfe who were with us on a team volunteer day.

The aim of the task was to help vary the age structure of the trees along the road, and gap filling with young trees. In time, these new trees will gradually replace the more mature trees when they come to the end of their lives. When we have avenues of trees of a similar age like this one on Peachfield road, there is an increased likelihood that they will start to decline and die around the same time, which could mean we would be left with large stretches of our land without tree cover in the future.

Led by Simon (Warden) and Andy (Conservation Officer), this task was organised with Sam Minett-Smith from Speller Metcalfe as a volunteer day. All those who attended brought so much enthusiasm and hard work, and a whopping 13 trees were successfully planted! The volunteers also got to clearing scrub from under the mature trees which was fantastic progress!

We're so grateful for the work that they put in, and it's a real help to us being able to get some extra hands to the tasks we have to do. We really hope the team enjoyed their day with us in the fresh air on Malvern Common, a nice break from the desk as some reported!
