As we are in the final weeks of our tree works this year, some of our volunteers were out in Thirds Wood helping to enhance the woodland here.
A couple of years ago Larch trees were removed here as they were uniform in age structure and showing signs of disease. New trees were planted in their place of a native mix.
The volunteers diligently weeded around these new trees and we have now been able to remove the protective guards from a few of these young trees as they have now outgrown them.
If you see these tubes around the bases of sapling trees around the hills this is what they are doing - helping protect newly establishing woodlands!
