Fire Station Open Day

Over the bank holiday, we ran a stall at Malvern Fire Station.

We met around 100 people in total, and our mini Ranger game proved a huge success with children aged 2-9 years old.
Participants had to put out a 'BBQ', rescue a sheep, empty a bin, protect rare flowers and adders and picking up litter... As well as other games too, to showcase a 'day in the life' of a ranger and raise awareness of staying safe and enjoying nature responsibly.
The fastest times on our 'leaderboard' were:

Darcy aged eight years who completed the course in 42 seconds.

Edward aged 10 years who completed the course in 45 seconds.

Lucy aged eight years who completed the course in 50 seconds.

Esmee aged six years, Lucy aged eight years, Sienna aged six years, Logan aged 10 years and Oscar aged five years also completed the course to be a mini ranger, in under a minute.

We met stakeholders from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, Community Action Malvern, British Transport Police, Network Rail and Police Road Safety.

There was 100% positive feedback on what we do:

We live locally and you do a brilliant job. You do all of the paths beautifully.”

The precept you take is good value to be fair.

Thanks for all you do.”

One young woman had been concerned to see on Facebook that we were going to ‘ban dogs from the Hills’. It was easy to explain to her that this is not the case, and that our Parliamentary Bill does make provision for regulating commercial dog walkers, which is common practice by other organisations.

We were going to offer to sit in the Ranger truck as did other stakeholders present  – but we were aware that we were competing with a ride in a fire engine!

All in all, this was a great event to run and we hope to be able to attend and run similar events in the future.
