Caring for the Hills, one field at a time 🌳
Between 30th October and 27th November, our field staff were hard at work at Hacketts Land, near Mathon and Colwall; a substantial piece of land in our care. This was a significant project, carried out alongside the installation of a new stock fence, and a great example of the behind-the-scenes work that helps keep the Malvern Hills and Commons thriving.
Much of the task involved coppicing hazel trees, carefully cutting it back to around one metre to encourage strong, healthy regrowth in the years to come. Other trees on site, mainly ash affected by ash dieback, had to be removed to help limit the spread of the disease and protect nearby healthy trees.
From pole saws and chainsaws to a tractor-mounted winch and plenty of teamwork, it was a real collective effort, one which the whole team could get stuck into and take pride in.
Managing a landscape of over 3,000 acres takes dedication, skill and hard work in all weathers, and our team work tirelessly throughout the year doing just that. Work like this helps us care for wildlife, livestock and habitats across the Hills and Commons, ensuring these special places continue to thrive for future generations.
A huge thank you to our field staff for their commitment and hard work 💚
