Putting new skills into practice

Recently, our field staff Neil and Katie had the chance to put their newly gained tractor skills to the test while helping with essential tree safety work near one of our buildings.

Contractors were on site to remove several ash trees affected by ash dieback disease. As these trees were close to the road, there was a risk to road users (should any fall unexpectedly), so we took proactive steps to remove them.

Once the trees had been cut, Neil and Katie worked in turn using the tractor’s front-end loader and timber grab to carefully move sections of timber and store them safely in the yard. It was a practical, hands-on task that demonstrated both their training and the teamwork that underpins so much of our day-to-day work.

From managing tree safety to caring for our wider landscape, moments like this show how investment in staff skills helps us look after the Malvern Hills and Commons efficiently, safely and with pride 💚
