Over 100 Visitors Discover the Work Behind the Malvern Hills Trust
More than 100 local residents and families joined Malvern Hills Trust on 5th August 2026. This was for an event designed to give local people a greater understanding of how the Trust cares for the Hills and Commons.
Staff and trustees came together with volunteers, partners and members of the local community for a day of hands-on activities, demonstrations and guided exploration. Visitors were able to meet the teams responsible for managing the landscape, protecting wildlife, maintaining access and preserving this nationally important area for future generations.
The day began with a visit from RHS National judges, who stopped at Link Common as part of the town’s ongoing participation in the Britain in Bloom campaign. The event was officially opened by the Mayor of Malvern, Councillor Iain Dawson, and visitors were also joined by Julie from the Malvern Hills Police Link and Dyson Safer Neighbourhood Team.
A particular highlight was the launch of the Trust’s new Junior Ranger initiative. Children completed a range of activities designed to help them understand how to care for the landscape and become ambassadors for the Hills amongst their friends and families. With their ‘passport’, collecting stamps at each station, they received a Junior Ranger badge when they had taken part in all the activities.
The response from visitors was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees commenting on both the educational value of the event and the importance of the Trust’s work.
One visitor described the event as:
“Excellent, especially for children.”
Another said:
“Very good, well worthwhile. Landscape can soon end in disrepair without organisations like this one.”
Others noted that the event had helped them better understand the Trust’s role:
“Very interesting, great idea. I knew a little about what the Malvern Hills Trust does, but now know much more.”

“We were delighted to welcome so many people to this year’s Discovery event. It was fantastic to see so many families taking part. Events like this help people understand the wide range of work involved in caring for the Malvern Hills and Commons, while inspiring the next generation to value and protect these special places. We are particularly proud of our new Junior Rangers, who showed great enthusiasm throughout the day.”
